Ahoy! All aboard the world cruise ship

What will it cost to sail around the world on a cruise liner from Hong Kong?

Well, apparently a minimum of HK$280,000 (US$36,120), according to Wing On Travel, which is launching an 85-day tour package for intrepid seafarers.

The world tour package aims to tap into the opportunities arising from the newly opened cruise terminal in Kai Tak area, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reported.

The cruise will debut in March next year, with the vessel stopping at over 28 destinations, the travel agency’s chief executive Leung Kong-lan was quoted as saying.

Leung said demand for world tours are on the rise, but many customers find taking flights and changing hotels on the route troublesome. That should boost the long-haul cruise market.

Wing On plans to introduce more long-haul routes in the near future. The first world tour package will be offered in partnership with Italy-based cruise line Costa Crociere S.p.A.

The cruise will depart for Shanghai from Hong Kong, before moving on to Phuket, Greece, Rome and New York, among other destinations.
