Critic hits back at proposed online ban on lawyers

Draft rules that would ban mainland lawyers from using the internet and other media to put the spotlight on cases is an insult to the legal community, Reuters reported Wednesday, citing Beijing-based lawyer Wang Fu.

The rules would ban lawyers from making “misleading” comments, issuing open letters or inciting protests calling for judicial reviews of cases, the report said.

Criticism of the mainland legal and political system, as well as Communist Party policy, would also be off-limits, according to the report.
