An official from a county stabilization office was shot dead in remote southwestern China while returning from work, state media reported Thursday.
The shooting happened on June 14 when Zhang Wei, 36, vice director of the Xinlong county stabilization office in Sichuan, was coming back from an assignment.
Police said Zhang’s death was an intentional homicide. The suspect, a 35-year-old ethnic Tibetan, escaped.
A warrant has been issued for his arrest, along with a 500,000 yuan (US$80,250) reward for any information leading to his capture.
Zhang, also an ethnic Tibetan, had been in a mountain village with his team for more than a month as part of their work to prevent or resolve disputes during the caterpillar fungus harvest season. The fungus is used for medicinal purposes
