Zhang Zhijun, director of China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, is scheduled to make an official visit to Taiwan from June 25 to 28, Taiwan newspaper Liberty Times reported Thursday.
Zhang will meet with his Taiwan counterpart, Wang Yu-chi, and exchange views on cross-strait relations, the official Xinhua news agency said separately.
He will visit New Taipei in the north, Changhua county and Taichung in central Taiwan, and Kaohsiung in the south.
Also, Zhang is scheduled to meet with mayors of New Taipei, central Taiwan and Kaohsiung, the report said.
Zhang is expected to spend time with ordinary people and hear their ideas and suggestions regarding cross-strait relations.
On the last day of his visit, Zhang will attend a religious event in Changhua before returning to China. The trip comes after a controversial trade pact triggered large-scale protests in the island in March.
In February, Wang visited the eastern mainland city of Nanjing for four days and invited Zhang to visit Taiwan.
