The Communist Party is investigating the brother of a top aide to former president Hu Jintao for alleged serious violations of discipline and law, Ming Pao Daily reported Friday.
The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said in a statement on its website Thursday that Ling Zhengce, vice chairman of the Shanxi Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), is under an internal investigation.
Ling Zhengce is the elder brother of Ling Jihua, formerly a right-hand man to Hu and now Minister of the United Front Work Department of the party’s Central Committee and CPPCC vice chairman.
The commission said Du Shanxue, deputy governor of coal-rich Shanxi, is also under investigation.
The moves suggest the so-called Shanxi Gang has been smashed, according to unidentified sources, adding that Ling Jihua is not expected to be dragged down because the matter is a provincial issue.
Sources said Ling Zhengce is suspected of involvement in corruption linked to Jin Daoming, the former vice chairman of the Shanxi Provincial People’s Congress Standing Committee who has been detained since February. Ling Zhengce is also accused of infractions relating to land and coal mine project approvals.
Ling Zhengce’s son is also reportedly under a cloud for his alleged links to the corruption case of Song Lin, the sacked chairman of state-owned China Resources (Holdings) Co. Ltd. who drove mergers of coal mines in the province.
