The convener of the pro-Beijing Justice Alliance embarked on a hunger strike outside the Central Government Complex in Admiralty Monday, demanding a stronger government response to the Occupy Central movement and a protest earlier this month inside the Legislative Council building.
Leticia Lee’s hunger strike prompted four opponents to have a picnic outside the complex and wave food at her, Apple Daily reported Tuesday. Some also played video clips of television cooking shows, Metro Daily reported.
The action comes after Lee wrote a 1,500-character post on Facebook saying the decision to go on the hunger strike was not easy but she hoped it would encourage officials to investigate “the evils that are trying to turn our home into a battlefield”.
Lee was referring to a protest inside Legco on June 13 against the government’s northeastern New Territories development plan.
Opponents responded on Facebook Sunday night by creating a page urging people to take food and drinks to the complex to “support” Lee.
Lee said the opponents were too far away to hear what they were saying. She said she was a little tired but would carry on despite the mosquito bites, the report said.
