Skyworth Digital Holdings Ltd. (00751.HK) is planning to launch two to three models of ultra-high-definition (4K) television this year, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reported Thursday, citing chief executive Yang Dongwen.
Yang expects sales of 1.8 million units which will be released to the mass market.
Last year, Skyworth sold more than 600,000 such units, mostly in affluent coastal cities. This time, it will push sales inward to rural areas, the report said.
Also, the company has launched Ku Kai, a budget model, to compete with low-cost smart TV from newcomers such as Beijing Xiaomi Technology Co.
Yang said Skyworth will offer more choices, including TV content and games, rather than compete on price.
It expects to achieve combined sales of 12 million TVs this year, up 6 percent from a year earlier, with three million destined for the overseas market which is seen growing 10 percent.
That compares with forecast growth of 4 percent for the mainland market in the next two to three years.
