Move over Mike Tyson. Uruguay striker Luis Suarez is the new king of bite.
Suarez became a talking point after he sank his teeth into Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini in his side’s 1-0 World Cup win on Tuesday.
Then he became a joke after pictures of the incident surfaced as memes on social media.
In one, he is shown as a shark in a poster of the 1975 blockbuster movie Jaws. In another, he is portrayed as a bloody vampire.
Some depict him holding Golden Tooth Prize and Best Bite of the Year trophies.
And not to be outdone, foodies are offering menus that should sate Suarez’s hunger every time he feels like tucking into an opponent – Leighton Baines on Toast and Benteke Fried Chicken.
The mocking frenzy at Suarez’s expense is apparently well deserved.
In 2010, he was banned seven matches by the Dutch Football Association in his first biting incident. When he helped himself to another serving in 2013, this time on Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic, he was banished 10 matches.
That makes Tyson’s 1997 ear-ripping antic on Evander Holyfield look tame, if a little less predictable.
But you can count on Suarez to come back for more.
In fact, one enterprising fan bet on it and came away US$916 richer.
No word yet where Suarez’s next meal is coming from.
