Girl, 8, saves baby sister from kidnapper

An eight-year-old girl saved her baby sister from a kidnapper by following them around and using a stranger’s phone to call the police, CCTV reported Thursday.

The incident happened when the siblings went for a drink at a water tap after church service in Xiamen, Fujian province.

The suspect offered to help the girl open the tap and said she had been sent by their father to fetch them.

The woman carried the one-year-old baby away, saying she was going to look for an umbrella, but the eight-year-old followed them around. When the girl lost sight of them more than an hour later, she managed to borrow a phone from a passerby to call the police.

The woman and the baby were gone by the time the officers arrived. The baby was later found unharmed and the suspect was arrested the next day after a check of CCTV street footage, the report said.

The 29-year-old suspect told police she has a one-year-old daughter with a former lover but she is in the hands of her relatives in the countryside.

She said she had tried to take the baby to show to her boyfriend who would be visiting soon and pretend she was their child, the report said.
