Japan protests over mushroom cloud Chinese newspaper ad

Japan plans to protest to China over an advertisement in a regional newspaper accusing Tokyo of warmongering and depicting mushroom clouds over the Hiroshima and Nagasaki, two cities hit by nuclear bombs in the second world war, Reuters reported Tuesday.

The advertisement in Chinese and English in the weekly Chongqing Youth News said “Japan wants a war again” and was carried on the website of the Global Times, which is published by People’s Daily, the report said.

“As the butcher of World War Two, the blood on Japan’s hands has yet to dry,” the Chongqing Youth News wrote in an accompanying article, Reuters reported.

Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida said the map and comments were regrettable.
