A terror suspect wanted by Xinjiang police has been nabbed in Shenzhen, thanks to a local citizen who alerted the Shenzhen authorities, Southern Metropolis Daily reported Thursday.
An official with Shenzhen’s public security bureau was quoted as saying that the suspect fled to Shenzhen in late June and was caught on the day he arrived after being reported.
The bureau said it has given a cash reward to the citizen who alerted them. The person’s identity and the reward amount were not disclosed, with only his surname — Zheng — made public.
It marked the first reward given by the Shenzhen government since it published a notice on June 16 encouraging citizens to report on terror suspects.
After the notice was published, the number of reported cases on terror-related clues had increased significantly, according to the official. The notice says there is no upper limit set on cash reward, only that generally the amount would be in the range of 2,000 yuan (US$323) and 500,000 yuan, the report said.
