Long-term permit for Hongqiao zone expats

Shanghai has unveiled a scheme to attract foreign talent to work in the Hongqiao Business Zone by offering them city residence permits for at least three years, Shanghai Daily reported.

Along with their families, general managers can apply for five-year residence permits, department managers can seek permits for four years, while other employees can apply for three-year permits, the report said.

Most expatriate professionals elsewhere in the city must apply annually, although general managers and those working for corporate headquarters based in the city need to apply only every three years, according to the newspaper.

“The Minhang District government will provide all kinds of conveniences on apartment renting and purchases, children’s education and medical care for foreign talent,” Zhao Qi, the district’s Party chief, was quoted as saying.

Some 80,000 foreign residents live within or around the zone, which is near the Hongqiao International Airport and Hongqiao Railway Station in Minhang, the report said.
