CCTV anchor, deputy chief held amid corruption investigation

One of China’s most popular television anchors and the deputy head of the state broadcaster’s finance channel have been detained just weeks after the head of the station came under a corruption cloud.

China Central Television anchor Rui Chenggang, 37, CCTV-2 deputy chief Li Yong and another unnamed producer were taken away by investigators Friday, am730 reported Monday, citing mainland media reports.

Their detentions bring to eight the number of people under investigation since May when the authorities began examining the activities of CCTV’s advertising director and director-general of its finance and economics channel, Guo Zhenxi.

Rui’s absence was particularly noticeable because he was due to co-host an economics program on Friday night.
