Video streaming sites have a week to scrub all unlicensed foreign movies and TV shows from their offerings as part of an official push to “clean up” internet TV, business news website JRJ.com reported Wednesday, citing internet TV news site www.lmtw.com.
The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television has held talks with seven internet TV operators, including China Central Television, since Friday, telling them to immediately remedy unauthorized activities, including streaming of forbidden content and distribution of unsanctioned set-top boxes.
The administration will start checking up on progress from July 21, it said.
The authorities have been trying to bring internet TV into line since April. Popular US TV shows such as The Big Bang Theory, The Good Wife, NCIS and The Practice have been pulled from video streaming sites over claims the sites are violating copyright or the programs contain controversial sexual or political content.
