Two people were killed and 32 injured in a bus blast in downtown Guangzhou, Guangdong province, Tuesday night, Xinhua reported Wednesday, citing police.
The explosion erupted in Haizhu district on Guangzhou Avenue, a key road linking the northern and southern parts of the city, at around 7.45pm.
Most of the injured suffered burns and were being treated at hospitals in the city, the report said.
Provincial and city officials ordered an investigation into the cause of the explosion.
State broadcaster CCTV reported that the blast was caused by “contraband” taken on board by a passenger, according to a preliminary police investigation.
