Japanese fashion retailer Cross to expand in China

Japanese apparel retailer Cross Company aims to add 60 new stores a year in mainland China to bring the total to 300 by 2017, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reported Monday, citing remarks by founder and president Yasuharu Ishikawa in an interview.

The company, which entered China in 2011, has stores in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing and Nanjing. It brands include  Earth, Music & Ecology, E Hyphen World Gallery, Green Parks and Sevendays=Sunday.  I.T Ltd. (00999.HK) serves as its franchisee in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Yasuharu said the new stores will be opened mostly in first-tier cities, while second-tier markets will be served through Alibaba’s tmall.com.

Marketing efforts will be mainly coursed through social media networks such as Tencent’s weibo.com.
