The National Development and Reform Commission will submit to the State Council this month a blueprint for the integration of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei province, Beijing News reported on Wednesday, citing an unnamed source.
Separate plans for transportation and environmental protection for the region will also be submitted for the cabinet’s approval, the report said.
The proposal is expected to ease the air, water and transport problems in the mega cities of Beijing and Tianjin, and coordinate their development for the purpose of regional integration with Hebei.
Chang Jiwen, a researcher with the State Council’s development and research center, said transport integration will be given top priority, including the building of high-speed and inter-city railways.
Ecological cooperation is also being highlighted in the plan as air pollution is a major problem in the region. This will include water conservation and clean energy.
The plan presents a new urbanization model that will address the issue of excessive migration into the city, the report said.
