CY Leung takes a break

Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying will be away on vacation from Aug. 6 to 10, a statement on the government’s website said Tuesday.

During Leung’s absence, Chief Secretary Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor will be acting chief executive.

This is the fourth holiday break for Leung so far this year.

He was last on vacation between June 24 and June 27. On June 24, his second daughter, Leung Chai-yan, posted a photo showing two cuts on her wrist and asking, “will I bleed to death?”

On June 26, the chief executive sent a picture to local news offices showing him with his wife, Regina Leung Tong Ching-yee, and daughter Chai-yan, smiling and enjoying the sun at Hyde Park in London.

Chai-yan later said the photo was “a lame PR stunt by my father”.

Leung also took leave from April 26 to May 6. During the period, the dispute over the delay of the high-speed rail line between Hong Kong and Guangzhou escalated.

He ended his vacation and returned to Hong Kong a day ahead of schedule, according to a statement on the government website, without giving any reason for the early return.

Leung’s first break this year was from Jan. 29 to Feb. 10, the government said.
