Thief caught picking cop’s pocket — twice

Pickpockets beware. Your target might turn out to be a cop, and the next one might be, well, another cop.

But this being largely a game of wiles and chance, it was no surprise that a petty thief unknowingly picked on a plainclothes policeman on Tiananmen Square. He was caught literally in the cop’s pocket.

“You chose the wrong man. I’m an anti-pickpocket policeman,” the cop was quoted as saying by Beijing Times Wednesday.

They argued for a while but since there was not enough evidence (the suspect apparently got nothing out of the cop’s pocket), the pickpocket was let off.

He went on to ply his trade and found a new prospect in a crowd waiting for the flag-raising ceremony to begin. This time, he successfully picked a wad of 100 yuan notes off the target.

Gotcha!

The would-be victim was a policeman and now he had evidence to book the culprit.

The moral of the story? If you can’t keep your hands in your pockets, don’t put them in a cop’s.
