Counterfeiters in China will start selling their version of the iPhone 6 soon, weeks before Apple Inc. unveils the real thing in September, a media report said Tuesday.
Headline News cited some Shenzhen distributors as saying that the fake iPhone 6 will be available in a week or two, before Apple’s expected announcement on Sept. 9.
While the genuine Apple product will use the latest iteration of the iOS operating system, the fake Chinese product will feature an Android system, according to the report.
US technology websites had reported earlier that Apple could launch two iPhone 6 models, bearing screen sizes of 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches. After the products are unveiled on Sept. 9, Apple could begin actual sales on Sept. 19, according to a report.
Some netizens, meanwhile, have uploaded a video that purportedly shows off a Chinese iPhone 6, complete with a user manual, headphones and a charger.
The video was shared among Japanese, Taiwan and mainland people. Some commented that the screen quality will not make much difference relative to the genuine product, the report said.
The fake iPhone is said to cost about 600 yuan (US$97). A Hong Kong smartphone distributor said the price of a genuine iPhone 6 will be double even for a handset with the minimum configuration. Some mainlanders may opt for the fake phones but Hongkongers will be interested only in the real thing, he told Headline News.
