Firefighters land prime perch in speed dating service

Forget putting out flames. Hong Kong’s firefighters now have a chance to ignite the hearts of women and find their potential life partners.

An international matchmaking firm has sent out creative heart-shaped invitation cards to firefighters working at Hong Kong’s 84 fire stations, asking those who are single to join its speed dating service, Apple Daily reported Tuesday. The firm, which was unidentified, will also target members of other discipline forces later and send out similar invitations, the paper said.

An individual’s profession is always a major consideration for potential partners. A marriage consultant was quoted as saying that single females aged above 28 usually accord great importance to profession and income as they seek partners. Public servants, including firefighters and those in other discipline forces, score high in the desirability sweepstakes.

Another matchmaker said males normally care more about females’ looks and age. People tend to opt for women who are three to five years younger than them. However, they would not want women who earn more than themselves.

According to a survey of major matchmakers in the city, females searching for male companions list the professions of investment banker, medical doctor and lawyer as their top three choices in seeking potential partners. As for males, they are said prefer nurses, office workers and teachers the most.

Now, which are the least popular professions? Both males and females put sales people, such as those in the fields of retail and insurance, on top of the list. The reason is because sales people are perceived as either working to a calculated plan or are too snobbish.
