Graphic new details are emerging about the death of Oscar-winning comedian Robin Williams.
Sheriff Keith Boyd of Marin County told a press conference Tuesday that Williams hanged himself with a belt after his wife had gone to bed on Sunday night, according to Yahoo News.
Susan Schneider went to bed at 10:30 p.m. and Williams later slept in a separate bedroom of their home in Tiburon, California, a small town in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Schneider left the house in the morning, thinking Williams was still asleep. An assistant found Williams’s body at about 11:45 a.m.
Williams was pronounced dead at 12:02 p.m.
Williams’s left wrist had several superficial wounds thought to be from a pocket knife found nearby, Boyd said.
Boyd would not say if Williams had left a suicide note or if it was the actor’s first attempt to kill himself.
He did say Williams was being treated for depression and authorities had not been called to the Williams home for previous incidents.
