Joshua Wong makes it to Open University, opens up on grades

Joshua Wong Chi-fung has opened up on his school grades.

The Scholarism co-founder achieved grade 4 in Chinese, 3 in English, 3 in Math, 5 in General Education and 4 in Business, Accounting and Financial Studies for an aggregate of 19 in his Diploma of Secondary Education examination.

The scores were posted on his Facebook account on Tuesday.

The student activist hopes that going public will clear untrue media reports and save him the trouble of making clarifications on the matter in the future, RTHK reported.

The scores are unchanged after a review by the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority and Wong has been admitted for the Bachelor of Social Sciences with Honours in Psychology program at the Open University of Hong Kong.

Wong said he hopes revealing his grades would help some schools and people from being affected because of his political activism.

There is no need for the public to brand students who care about society and are willing take up a cause, said Wong, whose group supports the Occupy Central movement.

Media reports had speculated that he had been admitted to the Chinese University of Hong Kong or the Hong Kong Baptist University.

Some reporters kept calling him for interviews, Wong said on Facebook.
