Three HK parks among China top 10

Nan Lian Garden in Hong Kong’s Diamond Hill district is the most popular park in China, according to travel website TripAdvisor.

Two other Hong Kong attractions — Hong Kong Park and Kowloon Park — were third and seventh, respectively, in the TripAdvisor 2014 Travel Choice Awards.

“No longer a hidden gem, Nan Lian Garden is now regularly considered a top 10 attraction in Hong Kong,” TripAdvisor said.

The Chinese classical garden, which has an area of 3.5 hectares, was inspired by the Tang Dynasty, with hills, water features, trees, rocks and wooden structures accentuating its design.

It opened to the public in 2006 as a joint project between the Chi Lin Nunnery and the district council.

Beijing’s Jingshan Park, a former private imperial garden attached to the grounds of the Forbidden City, came in second. Beihai Park and the city’s botanical garden were fourth and 10th, respectively.

The top 10 included Shanghai’s Riverside Promenade and Fuxing Park, the Classical Gardens of Suzhou and Zhaolin Park in northern Harbin city which is famous for its ice exhibits.
