Smartphone messaging tool Yo has enabled its users to send links and share social media hashtags, expanding the app’s utility from the mere exchange of the ‘Yo’ greeting, Financial Times reported.
The move comes as part of the San-Francisco-based firm’s plans to become the “next Twitter”, it noted.
Yo raised US$1 million in June, provoking intense debate in tech circles about the potential value of its original basic service.
But now it is expanding the functions in a bid to compete better with other platforms.
While it is yet to make money, Yo has accumulated 2.5 million registered users, according to the report.
