Success Universe Group Ltd. (00487.HK) aims to acquire a full-fledged gaming license in Macau as it remains upbeat on the industry prospects, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reported Monday, citing the firm’s deputy chairman Hoffman Ma.
While labor shortage could pose a problem for the overall Macau economy, casinos should be able to ride out the challenges and flourish, Ma said. Success Universe will actively seek a license when authorities commence a review on the gaming license systems starting 2015, he said.
New hotel and casino projects that are being undertaken by Macau’s existing six gaming license holders will be launched in batches in the Cotai area in the near future. The firms are said to be spending big in order to retain their employees.
According to Ma, Macau is short of up to 19,000 people across various ranks for hotel and gaming operations.
Success Universe currently operates 109 gaming tables at its five-star hotel Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16 and is now planning to add 20 more tables. Ma expects the new additions to commence operation as soon as this year.
Ma brushed off concerns that Macau’s gambling industry faces an uncertain future due to Beijing’s austerity and anti-graft campaign.
Apart from operating gaming tables in Macau, Success Universe operates sports lottery business in the mainland, having invested in Jiangxi, Qinghai and Heilongjiang. It also entered the Shanghai market in March this year. The company aims is to increase its presence in the mainland by adding at least one business location per year, Ma was quoted as saying.
