Chui pledges to work toward Macau’s long-term stability

Macau’s top leader Fernando Chui Sai-on, who is seeking another term in office, presented his election program on Saturday, pledging to carry forward the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ principle and work toward the city’s long-term prosperity and stability, Xinhua news agency reported.

Chui presented his policy outline to the 265 members of Macau’s election committee and took part in a question-and-answer session, the report said.

He said his election program is based on the total implementation of the Basic Law of Macau. If he wins a fresh term, the government will give priority to improving the people’s livelihood, he said.

Macau’s development is at a critical moment, with the territory facing opportunities as well as challenges, said Chui, who is seeking a second term unopposed.

The city will benefit from fresh opportunities that will arise from China’s reforms, he said.

Macau’s chief executive election will take place on Aug 31.
