ESF, SCAD to offer first IBCC program in Hong Kong

Renaissance College, a private independent international school in Ma On Shan managed by English Schools Foundation (ESF), and Savannah College of Arts and Design (SCAD) will jointly offer the International Baccalaureate Career-related Certificate (IBCC) from next semester, Sing Tao Daily reported on Tuesday.

The certificate, designed by non-profit educational foundation International Baccalaureate, is available to students who will start their Year 12 studies in August 2014 as a two-year course in career-related learning.

Students who want to earn the certificate will be required to take at least two subjects in International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and art-related subjects offered by SCAD. If they want to study in SCAD for a bachelor degree after graduation, the credit received can be transferred, the report said.

Tuition is HK$126,000 (US$16,256.91) a year. The program is expected to admit 20 students for this academic year.

Virginia Adair Mathis, SCAD director of admission, said the curriculum covers all basic subjects in art, including design, illustration and painting. Students can produce their own portfolio of works in the course of the program, giving them an advantage when they apply for art departments of universities.
