A typewriter app backed by actor Tom Hanks has topped iTunes Store charts, becoming the most downloaded application since its launch last week, reports said Tuesday.
Hanx Writer is now ranked number one in the “Productivity” section, as well as overall, on Apple’s software portal, Newsweek reported on its website.
The app aims to recreate the experience of a manual typewriter but with the “ease and spread” of an iPad.
The Oscar-winning actor was inspired by the charming experience of typing on a real typewriter, complete with satisfying clicks and that unmistakable “ding” as the machine moves to the next line, according to UK’s Guardian newspaper.
The app comes in three versions for the iPad, with the basic model available for free download. The advanced versions – priced between US$2.99 and US$4.99 – allow users to choose their favorite sound signature and also unique colors, texts and styles.
