Jackie Chan apologizes over son’s drug arrest

Hong Kong superstar Jackie Chan apologized to the public Wednesday, nearly two days after his movie actor son was arrested in Beijing for alleged drug offenses.

The elder Chan took to Weibo to take “some responsibility” for his son’s troubles, saying he should have done better to mold him into an upstanding person, am730 reported Thursday.

Jaycee Chan, 32, and Taiwanese actor Ko Chen-tung were arrested last week after they tested positive for marijuana use. Authorities found 100 grams of the banned substance in Jaycee’s apartment, according to reports. Both confessed to marijuana use.

Jackie Chan expressed anger, shock, shame and “pain in the heart” and said his wife is especially heartbroken.

In the post, which drew more than 80,000 responses within the first hour, Chan said Jaycee must face the consequences of his actions and urged young people to learn from his son’s situation.

Jackie Chan is an unofficial ambassador against drug abuse.

Meanwhile, Ko’s parents issued a public apology after arriving in Beijing on Monday and met their son in a detention center Wednesday.
