Haven’t we heard this before? That the best way to lose weight is to lose it and never put it back on?
Apparently, we all have a lot to learn, according to scientists from the University of Copenhagen.
They say the real holy grail of weight loss is an eating pattern that combines lower carbohydrates and lots of protein.
They’re calling it the World’s Best Diet, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
It’s based on a 2012 European research into so-called diogenes diet that compared five different diets to see which worked best at keeping weight off.
The research studied 773 adults who had already lost an average of 11 kilos.
They were assigned to one of five diets each based on a different combination of protein and carbs — some were lower in carbs and higher in protein and vice versa.
The winner? The low carb and high protein combo. The people on this diet not only kept the weight off during the six months of the study but they also continued to lose weight, too.
This way of eating works because both protein and low carbs help produce more of the satiety hormones that keep people feeling full, according to Jennie Brand-Miller, a professor of Human Nutrition at the University of Sydney’s Charles Perkins Center, who co-authored the Australian edition of World’s Best Diet.
