Ko Chen-tung vows to stay off drugs after release from custody

Taiwanese actor Ko Chen-tung bowed and apologized to the public Friday after being released in Beijing following a 14-day detention for smoking marijuana, RTHK reported.

“I made mistakes. No reason, no excuse. I am wrong,” Ko said in an interview with Beijing Television. He burst into tears several times during the interview, the report noted.

“I have to face my mistakes and correct them,” the 23-year-old celebrity said, adding that his “selfish and foolish” move has hurt his family deeply and set a bad example for his fans.

Ko said he must correct his mistakes as he does not want to disappoint the people who love him.

The interview lasted for 20 minutes, and his parents were also said to be in attendance. The three bowed and apologized several times.

The Taiwanese actor urged people not to imitate his illegal behavior and promised to never use drugs any more, no matter how unhappy he is.

Ko was freed early Friday after a 14-day administrative detention period came to an end.
