In the investment world, Li Ka-shing is the name on everyone’s lips.
Now the billionaire, who has a tech streak in him, has lent his name to a smart cup which is on pre-sales at a price of US$99.
Horizons Ventures, Li’s private equity firm, has a stake in Vessyl, the smart cup developed by Mark One, a San Francisco-based start-up, according to Apple Daily.
Vessyl can measure the caloric value of every beverage a person drinks. The cup is able to detect and break down drinks in it, and provide nutritional information such as the calorific, sugar, fat and caffeine contents.
By embedded sensors, the cup can display on its side the data of drinks. Users can also view the data through the Vessyl IOS app in smart phones, the report said.
Mark One founder and chief executive Justin Lee was quoted as saying that drinks have been regarded as a culprit of fat but Vessyl is a gift for those on a diet.
The cup is expected to ship in early 2015.
Horizons Ventures and Felicis Ventures, among others, had invested US$3 million in Mark One.
