A man who claimed on his Facebook page last week that he killed a puppy by throwing it into a running washing machine said he has returned to mainland China.
Using his Sina weibo account, the man, with username “I am Jacky Lo”, also said the pictures of the puppy he posted on Facebook were fake, and threatened to sue media outlets that reported he had killed the dog without confirming the authenticity of the pictures.
“You want to catch me? I will go back to the mainland this afternoon and won’t bother to talk to [the police],” Lo said in his last message on his Facebook page on Saturday, after which the page closed.
In the afternoon of the same day, he wrote on weibo: “I was shocked when I read [about the puppy] in a newspaper in Macau this morning. I originally wanted to open my Facebook account but I failed as I forgot my username and password.”
He said he went to the mainland as he felt the situation is not good.
“I am now in the mainland, not Hong Kong. Police need not waste their time looking for me. Those materials [photos on Facebook] are fake. Don’t believe them,” he wrote at 9 p.m., adding that his Facebook account had been hacked.
He said he will reserve his right to sue media outlets, which he said wrongly reported the case with unconfirmed materials.
“Expose my identity? Report to the police? Do you [Hong Kong netizens] think you are Sherlock Holmes? Catch me if you can,” he said around 11 p.m. on Sunday.
Last Friday, an animal rights group called on police to investigate after photos showing a puppy inside a running washing machine were posted on Facebook with the words “The fastest way to take a shower: immerse it, rinse and drain, done. Clean and easy” in simplified Chinese.
The photos trigged an outcry among netizens, who asked if the dog had been killed.
The Facebook account holder, identifying himself as Jacky Lo, replied that the animal died during a second wash.
