Guangzhou police bust gangs selling fake LV handbags

Guangzhou police have busted a crime syndicate selling fake Louis Vuitton handbags to overseas buyers through the internet.

The LV knockoffs seized by the police could be worth more than 1 billion yuan (US$162.9 million), the local public security authority announced Thursday.

In June police raided six workshops run by the gang and seized 11,000 high-quality but fake LV bags, raw materials and production equipment. The gang were selling the items through a fake LV website.

In another operation, police arrested nine suspected members of another gang that produced fake luxury handbags, including a foreigner.

Earlier in May, law enforcers also busted three gangs specializing in fake Nike and Adidas sportswear and seized items worth 18.9 million yuan.

More than 2,000 suspects have been arrested in the raid conducted as part of the local authorities’ special campaign against fake products that began in January this year, China News Service reported.
