Offices closed as protesters block government headquarters

The government headquarters is closed today because the road toward the Tamar complex is blocked by protesters.

Civil servants working in the headquarters do not need to be in their office but should work according to their departments’ contingency plans. All visitor activities are also postponed or cancelled, RTHK reported.

Protestors tried to block the entrance on the second floor of the East Wing of the government headquarters with iron railings. There were arguments with government workers.

Meanwhile, many top officials were seen driving to Government House, including Chief Secretary Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen Kwok-keung and Secretary for the Environment Wong Kam-sing.

Some were also seen entering the west wing of the old government headquarters, including Financial Secretary John Tsang Chun-wah, who arrived at 7:40 this morning.

Protesters are still blocking the Chief Executive Office in Tim Wa Avenue.

Police said that a police officer fainted. Protesters refused to make way for an ambulance and scuffles broke out between the two sides.

A path was cleared for the ambulance in the end.
