A real estate agent has apologized for disclosing the home address of one of the organizers of the pro-democracy protest, Ming Pao reported Wednesday.
Rylie Ip, a regional manager with Midland Realty, posted the address of Joshua Wong Chi-fung, a co-founder of the student group Scholarism, on his Facebook account Tuesday morning. He also urged Hong Kong citizens to “occupy” Wong’s home.
Ip said he was sorry for his action and for tainting the company’s reputation.
He said he copied and shared Wong’s personal information after seeing various online posts.
“I have over 4,000 friends on my Facebook account including my customers, colleagues, developers and family relatives. Most of them are against Occupy Central while around one tenth are supporters,” Ip said in a statement published on Ming Pao.
“Many have posted Wong’s personal information over the weekend, and the post has been shared and liked by 1,018 and 4,000 followers. And I shared the post on impulse yesterday morning,” the statement said.
Ip has deleted the post after one friend told him it has Wong’s home address.
