Barefoot ‘runaway’ bride stops barricade busters

A bride in a wedding dress would be the last person you’d expect at the scene of a barricade-busting operation by the Hong Kong police.

It’s not romantic, for a start, unlike two weeks ago when a group of young protesters provided a dramatic backdrop for a newlywed couple kissing in a very public display of affection.

But as it turns out, although details are scant, the sight of the bride running through the streets in Admiralty was nothing unusual.

Most roads had been inaccessible to cars including the short hop to the marriage registry office.

The fact that the bride was running barefoot, with her poor groom in tow making sure her gown did not catch anything, added to the urgency of the situation.

No one is supposed to be late to their own wedding.

Still, the spectacle provided a brief comic relief as the policemen and a group of protesters who were trying to fight off the barricade demolition, stopped, looked and probably listened to all the huffing and puffing.

The couple got some love from onlookers who cheered them on.

Apple Daily later reported they got to the wedding registry office on time.

No doubt it was a great photo op for the wedding reception that was to follow. Few couples get to display a wedding picture that memorable at their banquets.
