Fido feeling left out as you shop for winter wear?
Clothing retailer American Eagle Outfitters Inc., which normally targets teenagers, is broadening its sights to a different species: dogs.
The company is releasing a canine clothing line called American Beagle Outfitters, capitalizing on an April Fools’ Day joke that many customers wanted to be real, Bloomberg reports.
Knit sweaters, puffer jackets and hats for dogs hit the market this week.
“Just in time for the holidays, you’ll be able to dress just like your best friend — man’s best friend that is,” Preston Konrad, style director at American Eagle, said.
A canine collection could help boost revenues for the retailer, which is suffering from falling sales, like many of its teen-clothing rivals.
The National Retail Federation said Americans were estimated to have spent US$350 million for pet costumes at Halloween.
As Peanuts creator Charles Schulz said, “Happiness is a warm puppy.”
