HK tourists killed in New Zealand vehicle collision

Three Hong Kong tourists were killed when their rental van and a truck and trailer unit collided in Central Ortago in New Zealand on Thursday, the New Zealand Herald reported.

The trio were part of a party of nine travelling New Zealand in two separate vehicles when the crash occurred on State Highway 6 near Luggate, the paper said.

The dead were identified as Wing Fai Chan, 60, who was said to be driving the rental vehicle, and two female rear-seat passengers — Kwai Tei Chong, 61; and Yin Wan Ng, 56. They died at the scene.

A fourth occupant, a 59-year-old male sitting in the front beside the driver, survived the accident and was taken to a hospital in Dunedin by a rescue helicopter, according to the report.

He is said to be in a stable condition.
