Kai Tak cruise hub to offer special ferry services

Provisional ferry services will be offered at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal for large events and cruise arrivals.

Worldwide Cruise Terminals Consortium (WCT), which operates the new facility, and a group of ferry companies have agreed to provide special transfers, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reported Thursday, citing Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Gregory So.

So announced details of the agreement during a Legislative Council hearing.

He said government agencies have carried out inspections to study the viability of the plan.

Priority will be given to passenger safety and the security and efficiency of the terminal.

WTC managing director Jeff Bent said event organizers can discuss details of the service with ferry operators including routes, fares, ferry types and schedules.

Also, the terminal may be added to the existing network of regular ferry services between Kwun Tong and North Point or Sai Wan Ho districts, the report said.

Kwun Tong district councilor Cheung Ki-tang urged WCT to press ahead with a planned single-track railway for the terminal.
