The United States has gained control of more than six thousand Chinese websites through servers located in that country, a senior mainland internet official said on Thursday.
Huang Chengqing, director of the National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China, known as CNCERT, revealed the somewhat shocking number at the nation’s first World Internet Conference that is being held in Wuzhen in Zhejiang province, China Securities Journal reported.
According to the official, the US has effective control over 6,118 Chinese websites. A study of IP addresses also reveals that Hong Kong controls 3,097 Chinese websites, while South Korea controls 2,307, he was quoted as saying.
The numbers show that China has a difficult situation in terms of web security, Huang said.
He added that CNCERT, a non-government and non-profit organization, has been aggressively pushing for international collaboration through partnership programs.
That has enabled partnerships with 59 countries and 127 organizations, Huang said.
