“Frozen” merchandise is the most sought-after toy for girls this holiday season in the US, edging out Barbie from the No. 1 position for the first time, Bloomberg News reported, citing a survey from the US National Retail Federation.
About 20 percent of parents plan to buy “Frozen” gifts for their daughters, compared with 17 percent who said they will pick up Barbie dolls, the survey showed, according to the report.
Barbie had been the top pick in the past 11 years.
“Barbie has been the top girls’ toy for over a decade, but it is no surprise that Disney’s ‘Frozen’ has taken the top seat as children have had it on the mind,” Pam Goodfellow, director of Prosper Insights & Analytics, which worked on the survey, was quoted as saying.
“Frozen”, released last year, is the most successful animated film of all time, generating almost US$1.3 billion in worldwide ticket sales.
As for gifts for boys, Lego toys were the most popular choice for parents, with 14 percent opting for them.
