British hedge fund billionaire Chris Hohn will pay his American-born wife US$530 million in what is considered the biggest divorce settlement ever awarded by an English court, the Financial Times reported.
Sir Chris, who has a personal fortune of US$1.3 billion, is to pay Jamie Cooper Hohn around US$530 million, including US$493 million in cash and a house in Connecticut, her lawyer told a court hearing on Thursday.
The son of a Jamaican car mechanic, Sir Chris, 48, has been fighting his estranged wife in the High Court since July over the size of her financial award upon divorce, the newspaper said. They separated after 17 years of marriage. They have four children including triplets.
Cooper-Hohn, 49, wanted half of the conjugal assets, but her husband offered only a quarter, saying he contributed much to their fortune.
The settlement surpasses what was previously considered the largest divorce award in English courts, that of Galina Berezovsky, the former wife of the late Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky, who was reportedly received 100 to 200 million pounds, the report said.
