Lebanon detains wife of Islamic State chief

Lebanon has detained a wife and daughter of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi at a border crossing nine days ago, Reuters quoted Lebanese military officials as saying Tuesday.

They were detained in northern Lebanon after Baghdadi’s wife was found with a fake passport, the report said.

Investigators are said to be questioning the woman, identified as Saja al-Dulaimi, an Iraqi national.

The arrest was made in coordination with foreign intelligence, sources said, but the US embassy in Lebanon stated that it was “an operation by the government of Lebanon.”

Dulaimi was one of 150 women released from a Syrian government jail in March as part of a prisoner swap that led to the release of 13 nuns taken captive by al Qaeda-linked militants in Syria, according to media reports at the time.

Baghdadi is reported to have three wives, two Iraqis and one Syrian.
