A billboard in Fujian province greets motorists “Welcome to my 16th birthday party!”
Nothing wrong with that, except that there are 16 such giant invitations on a stretch of highway in Jinjiang — and some people don’t like them.
Some Chinese netizens tore at the idea on social media for flaunting wealth. Others called it novel and funny, United Daily News reported Friday.
But there’s really nothing to it, according to the man behind all this.
The man, a business owner surnamed Shi, told local media he merely wanted to throw a huge party for his son, whom he described as “the treasure of generations under one roof”.
And the boy’s grandfather said the 16 billboards, which feature a giant picture of the young celebrant, cost only 1,600 yuan (US$257) and will be removed after the party.
