Kumi Morita, a 43-year-old Japanese housewife with three children, has been adjudged “the most beautiful witch” in a national beauty competition in Tokyo, CNA News said, citing a report from Modelpress.
Morita bested some 1,850 other aspirants for the 2014 National Bimajo (“beautiful witch”) Grand Prix, which is open to women aged 40 or more who still look youthful and glamorous. “Bimajo” is a term of compliment for older women in Japan.
Japan has been holding the contest since 2010 with the aim of encouraging middle-aged women to develop self-confidence and mature charm.
Morita had worked as a fashion model for six years and a secretary for 10 years before becoming a full-time housewife two years ago. She had also tried to be a singer at 25 but never realized her dream.
She said her husband was the only one who knew she was joining the contest and gave her a lot of support. Other family members and friends were all surprised to hear she won the contest, she said.
Morita wants to be like her idol, 62-year-old actress Mari Natsuki, who she said always looks dazzling.
