Girl’s freak bus door accident raises safety concern

An eight-year-old girl was injured when her right leg was caught in the door of a crowded passenger bus.

She was brought to a hospital and was discharged with no injuries except for a slight swelling in her right calf, Sing Tao Daily reported Wednesday.

The girl, surnamed Fok, was traveling with her mother on a Citybus to Chai Wan from Happy Valley.

She was standing near the entrance, next to the driver’s seat.

When the bus stopped to pick up more passengers, the girl was pushed to the automatic door which trapped her leg when it opened.

A Citybus representative said the bus driver has 17 years’ experience and the bus is only about a year old.

The incident raised concern about passenger conduct that undermines safety on public transport.

The Citybus official said people should move to the passenger compartment after boarding and drivers should be mindful of safety at all times.
