The Chinese Communist Party has placed Nanjing party chief Yang Weize under investigation for suspected “serious violations of discipline” and laws, China Daily reported.
The probe on the 53-year-old Yang was made by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection through an announcement on the agency’s website Sunday evening, the report said.
The announcement gave no details, the paper said.
Born in Changzhou, Yang spent most of his career in Jiangsu province. He has been the Party chief of Nanjing, one of the most important cities on the Yangtze River Delta, since 2011.
In 2014, Ji Jianye, former mayor of Nanjing, was investigated on suspicion of accepting bribes and abusing power. The 57-year-old was accused of taking huge bribes that could total 20 million yuan (US$3.3 million).
It’s not clear if the Yang investigation is related to the Ji case, the report said.
