Attack! Take cover! Umbrella Revolution inspires new online game

A web-savvy member of the popular internet discussion board The Golden Forum has created an online game that draws inspiration from the pro-democracy Occupy movement.

The game, called Hong Kong’s Unique Umbrella Revolution, was developed by Wong Kuen, Apple Daily reported Tuesday. A war game that requires cunning and strategy, it offers a choice of 13 roles, such as students, bystanders, police and government.

Players will be led by prominent figures such as Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying and Occupy Central co-founder Benny Tai. Cantopop singer Denise Ho will lead the singers who will attack with their songs.

Players can relive some of the incidents during the 79-day protest campaign, such as the police attack on Lung Wo Road in Admiralty and the battle between riot police and students at the Mong Kok protest site.

More than 200 scenarios, some based on actual events and some fictional, are on offer for users.

Apple Daily reporters who have tried the game said it offers realistic experiences. For example, government units in the game have huge manpower and resources, and therefore very difficult to play against.
